Playoff Recap
Thank you, everyone, for another exciting and memorable year in the Blumpkin League! The 2025 season has officially come to a close, and I’m relieved (haha) to finally crown our new league champion.
The 2025 Blumpkin Championship featured #1 seed Matt (PUKA PALOOZA) Lilly vs. #2 seed James (That Johnson) DelMasto, with Matt taking the win 136.30 to 112.64. This marks my third Blumpkin, and I’ve finally broken a two-year streak of finishing in 3rd place despite strong regular seasons. A big key to the run was drafting the #1 and #2 overall WRs in the league (Puka and JSN, respectively).
Finishing in second place was James. And I say this every year because it’s always true: James is the definition of consistency. Over the last five years, he’s put together an incredible stretch with one Blumpkin, two 2nd-place finishes, a 3rd-place finish, and a 4th-place finish. Congrats on another awesome season, brah. I’m looking forward to that burrito.
The third-place matchup featured #3 seed Alley (PhillyHurtzelFactory) Riley vs. #5 seed Sam (Schaub on my Knob) Breslow. Alley dominated the regular season, leading the league in total points and averaging 127 points per week. Sam, however, caught fire in the playoffs, averaging 147 points per week, and ultimately took the third-place game 150.98 to 101.02. These two split their regular-season matchups, which made the 3rd-place game even more interesting. Sam also continues to be dominant in the postseason, winning a Blumpkin League-high 64% of playoff games played (more fun stats coming in a website update in a few weeks)
.…Speaking of fun, we voted in a new rule, 11-1, this season. The rule is that the first place team (me) gets to pick the name for the last place team (Brad) next season…this’ll be a lot of fun to come up with 😈
Congrats to all of our winners, and thanks to everyone for making this season such a blast. Here’s to the rivalries and to this awesome hobby. Happy New Year, everyone!
